Welcome to the trend overview
"Rise of the Participation Culture"
In 2005 I began to see an acceleration in the use of various technologies that people were using to connect to one another.
At the time the term "social media" was not being used to talk about all forms of connected applications, but instead industry leaders called them "participation applications" among other terms. Before heading to an industry event in November of 2006—O'Reilly & Associates influential Web 2.0 Summit where I sat and talked with Ray Ozzie, Ward Cunningham, FCC Chairman Michael Powell among others—I wrote and published the report you can download below which generated a nice amount of buzz and gave me a bit more credibility as a trend consultant and visionary.
As of this update on February 9, 2017, the report has had a whopping 116, 235 downloads.
